When you think of Scotland many people immediately think of golf. As Old Tom Morris the first winner of 'The Open' is supposed to have said 'The Almichty maun hae had gowf in his e'e when he made the place' (When Almighty God created the place he had golf on his mind). Although there is some dispute that Scotland invented golf, it certainly has been played here since the 15th Century and it was developed into the game it is today in Scotland. The Kings Manor and its sister hotels The Pitbauchlie House Hotel and The Balgeddie House Hotel are ideally placed to allow you to explore the historic base and spiritual home of this worldwide game.
The Pitbauchlie House Hotel is in the centre of Fife where the Royal and Ancient Golf club has its head quarters and, of course, home of St Andrews Old Course where the standard 18 holes was first played.
Based near Glenrothes in Fife The Balgeddie House Hotel is a good base for all Fife Courses as well as the upland courses of Perthshire
The Kings Manor stands on the doorstep of the great links courses of East Lothian, the most famous being Gullane and the fearsome Muirfield.
Base yourself in the Kings Manor Hotel, Edinburgh, The Balgeddie or The Pitbauchlie and enjoy the warmth of welcome and facilities you deserve on the doorstep of some of the best Golf Scotland can offer. Whether you stay in one of the hotels or split your visit between Fife and East Lothian you will be assured of some excellent golf and first rate hospitality.
Only minutes from reputedly the country's second-oldest golf course at Old Musselburgh, the whole of East Lothian's range of challenging Links courses are only a short drive away. The Open Qualifying courses of Gullane, Dunbar, Longniddry and North Berwick West offer a challenge to the best of golfers even if the wind does not blow. The less well-known courses at North Berwick East Links, Whitekirk and Kilspindie offer a great day out for golfers of all abilities.
Fife is considered by many to be the home of Golf with The Old Course at St Andrews being by far the most famous course in the world. Tee times at St Andrews are by daily ballot so pre-booking of that course is not really possible. Many of the other outstanding links courses are more accessible. Lundin Links and Leven are used as qualifying courses for the British Open whilst Crail, Balbirnie and Aberdour all offer challenges to golfers of all standards.
